Last year I had the honour of speaking in both Gothenburg and Oslo, this year Stockholm got added to this wonderful list of Scandinavian countries.
The event is headed by Daniel Hutmacher, his wife Ewa Hutmacher and Alexander Arvidsson. Three people who really care for the event and everyone in it. And this shows in everything they do.
Friday
For instance, the day before the conference, I had signed up to moderate three session at New Stars of Data, the newcomer speaker event. Choices were to fly in late on friday with all the risks of missing speaker dinner or fly in a day early and find a place to do the job. Daniel and Ewa made very sure I had a good place to do my ‘job’. Everything was taken care of. Coffee was provided, quiet as well and this way I could do the job for New Stars of Data.

After a delicious lunch outside, we split up to meet again at the speaker dinner. Just like Gothenburg last year, it involved a boat trip and we ended up at an amazing place, Vaxholms Kastell. We had a great evening and enjoyed a beautiful sunset before heading back to the city centre and prepare for the event. I had my big camera with me to take pictures but haven’t come round to editing them.

Saturday
The event is held in a university building, meaning the infrastructure is good.

After final preparations it was time to do the session. This time it was on the things you need to know when you want to start out in the DBA field. My room had enough people in it to make it fun, interactive and a real highlight. From the feedback during and after the session, I’m gathering that things were learned and that made my day. Even more so, getting feedback on the session from an experienced speaker made sure that this session, and any other suffering from the same problem, will improve. Feedback given from a positive point of view, meant to improve the receiver is pure gold.

Afterparty
Just like Gothenburg, there was a very nice afterparty with amazing people, good food and good conversations; both technical and non-technical. At some point my battery ran out and I went back to the hotel, preparing for my flight home. As always during days like this, it takes some time for my mind to settle and reminiscing the privilege I have of attending and sharing at events like these. It’s something to never take for granted.

All things considered, really happy to have flown out and be part of this event. Again, thank you so much for having me!
